Approximately 100 members of the community dressed in pink, came together for two hours to dance in honor of loved ones, community members and even a member of the Zumba class.  This year’s event was in honor of Lisa Lewis who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.  She is an active member of the Y who continued to come to class throughout her entire 10 months of treatment.  Lisa motivated the crowd as she partied right beside them.

There was an outpouring of support from the local community.  The party kicked off with great door prizes from several local businesses.  Staff and volunteers served refreshments to the dancers.  There were several licensed massage therapists on hand offering free massages for those sore muscles.  Even the three instructors were volunteers.

The YMCA hosted the Zumbathon as part of October’s breast cancer awareness month.  Later that week the Y also participated in Towanda Memorial Hospital’s Paint the Town Pink event.  The Zumbathon raised $1776 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation and increased community support and awareness for this great cause.  The YMCA, community and members look forward to continuing this great event.
