This year the River Valley YMCA branches are revitilizing their summer camp programs. Because of our associations with great parks in our areas, we can offer many activities that other day camps cannot. Campers will have the opportunity to experience traditional YMCA camp activities such as: archery, canoeing, swimming, fishing, nature study, arts and crafts, group skits, singing, trail blazing, fort building, weekly field trips, and of course all kinds of crazy games. Like all of our YMCA summer day camps, YMCA Camps will emphasize games in which all children can play and where each camper has fun, learns and grows. We will offer your child a great day camp experience that they will remember for the rest of their life. At camp, we schedule activities that children cannot anywhere else, ie: we offer a “resident camp experience in a day camp setting”
Why the radical change in camps this year? The CEO, has over 15 years experience running summer day camps. “I think parents will see positive change in the way in which we approach our summer camps. Our camps have been good, but now It’s my goal to help the staff make them great” said Fagerstrom.
How many children does the YMCA expect this summer? “The jury is still out” said Fagerstrom “but we’re hoping to have over 50 children in each camp.” In the other YMCA’s that he has worked for, Dave has seen the dramatic differences that can happen when YMCAs run summer day camps the way that they should be run. “When they’re run right, it’s a beautiful thing” said Fagerstrom.
